Validation of the Cognitive Behavioral Social Self-Efficacy Scale in Chilean University Students
Abstract
The Cognitive-Behavioral Social Self-Efficacy Scale was designed to assess social self-efficacy based on cognitive and behavioural domains. This research aimed to validate and estimate the psychometric properties of this scale through its application in 824 students (46.4% female) and (53.4% male), between 17 and 23 years old (M=18.71; M =18.71; SD =1.17), who were in the first year of their careers at a university in southern Chile. The results indicated an adequate fit of the second-order model considering three dimensions of social self-efficacy and a general factor. The internal consistency coefficients for the dimensions of the scale were, omega =.81 (Factor 1: Prediction), omega =.82 (Factor 2: Cognitive), omega =.83 (Factor 3: Behavioral) and (General Factor) omega =.87 (Social Self-efficacy). It is concluded that the questionnaire is a valid and reliable instrument to evaluate this construct in Chilean university students.
