School violence and teacher performance: physical education class as a prevention strategy Violencia escolar y desempeño docente: la clase de educación física como estrategia de prevención
Abstract
The objective was to analyze the perception of primary and secondary school teachers of a city in the center-south of Chile on school violence. A qualitative methodology was used through semi-structured interviews in which eight teachers from municipal and subsidized private elementary and secondary schools participated. The results indicate that teachers are increasingly recognizing the expressions of violence in the classroom and one of the prevention alternatives proposed is to develop extracurricular activities to improve interpersonal relations. It is concluded that it is necessary to incorporate activities such as cooperative or self-knowledge games to reduce or mitigate violent actions in school spaces.
