Abstract

This article explores the person of Mary Magdalene in Bonaventure’s exegesis of the Gospel of John. The author offers disclaimers about himself and his work before analyzing the passages from In Ioan that reference Mary Magdalene in the context of the resurrection. The analysis begins with the care and diligence shown by Mary Magdalene; moves to the energy and love she brings to the mission entrusted to her; and ends with the dynamics of the encounter between her and the resurrected Jesus. Special attention is paid to Bonaventure’s deep appreciation for the female role.
