Abstract

The anatomy of the venous system of the lower limbs has been full of imprecise terms and eponyms that make it difficult to understand, communicate, and treat the pathologies that affect it. Terminologia anatomica (TA) has come to banish these problems, but its use has not yet penetrated sufficiently since what was taught in the 1st years in anatomy courses is forgotten when reaching clinical or radiological practice, perpetuated by those who teach in the final stages of training. This work aims to be a contribution to the study of the venous anatomy of the lower limbs, with an emphasis on the superficial system, incorporating the use of TA, which corresponds to the official human anatomical nomenclature, for the study of anatomy and realization and the interpretation of imaging tests such as ultrasound, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and phlebography. © 2023 Sociedad Chilena de Radiología.
