THE LIMITS OF THE SELF: TOWARDS A CLARIFICATION OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN DELUSIONS OF THOUGHT INSERTION AND THE PRINCIPLE OF IMMUNITY ERROR THROUGH MISIDENTIFICATION

López-Silva, Pablo; Méndez, Emmanuel

Abstract

This paper examines whether delusions of thought insertion constitute a counterexample against the so-called principle of immunity to error through misidentification. After distinguishing different formulations of the principle in the literature, we suggest that thought insertion does not undermine it. After, we clarify the concept of psychological self-adscription in its use relative to first-person pronouns in the context of the debate about the relationship between thought insertion and immunity to error through misidentification. © 2024 Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, Instituto de Investigaciones Filosoficas.
