Abstract

Purpose: This research aims to validate a community engagement measurement instrument based on four predefined dimensions. Design/methodology: The instrument was applied to workers of private companies in the Biobío region, Chile. The development phases of this instrument were as follows: expert evaluation, initial pilot test, and statistical validation. Results: The statistical analysis results show that there are good levels of relationship between the items and they comply with the fundamental psychometric properties to be used, for which it is possible to affirm that the community commitment questionnaire has been statistically validated. Implications: With this measurement instrument, the aim is to know the activities and strategies that companies have regarding the commitment to the community that the company presents, how they approach the issue and how integrated they are with the environment where they develop their productive activities. Originality/value: Organizations must learn to get involved responsibly with the environment in which they are immersed. They must maintain a harmonious coexistence with the community because the commitment to it benefits both the neighbors and the organization and ensures the company's permanence in this community.
