Popular Unity during the Cold War: an approach from the experience of the New Chilean Song
Abstract
This essay analyses the Unidad Popular project in Chile from the context of the Cold War. Through a cultural and political approach, the aim is to understand the experience of the Nueva Canción Chilena within national and world history. We will focus on the cultural discussion in those years and the artistic practices exemplified through the work of VÃctor Jara and Quilapayún, who establish a connection between artistic development as well as political and social action. The conceptualization and connection between art, politics and society will be analyzed from a theoretical perspective.
