A collaboration between sociologists and women mathematicians: (auto)biographical interviews, mathematician ethos and women's careers in Chile.
Abstract
This article reports on a research process in the field of mathematics in Chile, with a particular focus on women's careers in academia. The project was carried out by a research team composed of both sociologists and mathematicians, which we believe is an innovative experiment in interdisciplinarity. We take a reflexive approach to it here, situating it in relation to the literature on interdisciplinarity and feminist epistemology. We then present the methodology we used, based on biographical interviews and auto-ethnography of the female mathematicians in the team, to identify the stages of a woman's career as a mathematician in Chile. Finally, we would like to highlight the gap that this interdisciplinary collaboration has allowed us to identify and the lessons we have drawn from it in terms of the constitution of the mathematical ethos.
