Enhanced photocatalytic H2 production over g-C3N4/NiS hybrid photocatalyst
Abstract
g-C3N4/NiS photocatalyst synthesized using a two-step procedure involving thermal condensation and solvothermal techniques. The presence of two phases in the hybrid material obtained was observed in the results of XRD and XPS analysis. The UV spectroscopy analysis of g-C3N4/NiS showed a shift to lower energies in the adsorption region comparing to bare g-C3N4, with values band gap values of 2.74 and 2.3 eV, respectively. The SEM analysis showed the typical g-C3N4 lamellar morphology with clusters of NiS grown over g-C3N4. The yield of H-2 obtained with the hybrid material in the water splitting reaction under UV irradiation was 30% higher than that obtained when pure g-C3N4 was used as photocatalyst.
