Abstract

We analyze the demarcation plans of pueblos de indios in Colonial Chile, which were drawn up in the Eighteenth century, and mostly from 1790 onwards. We draw upon the idea that map and territory are not the same. In this case, considered as an expression of a racialized archive, the use of this cartography permited to challenge or diminish indigenous lands, becoming documents of dispossession through the repeated evocation of what is recognized as the discourse of extinction.
