Interview with architect Eugenio Ringeling. Understanding time through architectural works Entrevista al arquitecto Eugenio Ringeling P. Entender el tiempo a través de las obras
Abstract
The current DAE building, located on the Isla Teja Campus of the UACh, is a work of modern architecture funded by the Chilean-Mexican Plan for Fraternal Cooperation in 1960-1964. It was designed by architect Eugenio Ringeling P. (image 1) and conceived as a cultural or art center. Its construction began in 1963, being paralyzed and resumed in 1965. Later, it was inaugurated in 1967 as the University library. This building is one of the three cultural centers donated by the Government of Mexico, in addition to the Art Gallery of the University of Concepción and the Diego Rivera Cultural Center in Puerto Montt. The interview with its architect on December 12, 2018, reveals the work of this professional at the University and his participation in the design and construction of the first buildings of the university city, and in particular of the cultural center.
