Abstract

The study of tolerance within social psychology has witnessed recent advancements (Verkuyten et al., 2023). One notable example is the development of a concise assessment tool aimed at measuring tolerance, conceptualized as a positive inclination towards diversity by Hjerm et al. (2020). The present investigation endeavors to translate, validate, and examine several psychometric properties of this scale in the Chilean context. To achieve this objective, three distinct studies were conducted. In Study 1 (n=282), the factorial structure of the scale was subjected to analysis among university students. In Study 2 (n=201), the same procedure was applied to a representative sample. Lastly, Study 3 (n=213) assessed divergent validity among university students. The findings consistently affirmed the original three-dimensional structure of the tolerance scale. Moreover, the results demonstrate satisfactory internal consistency and convergent, discriminant, and divergent validity. Thus, this research presents a validated scale designed to measure tolerance towards various social groups.
