Screening for indole-3-acetic acid synthesis and 1-aminocyclopropane-carboxylate deaminase activity in soil yeasts from Chile uncovers Solicoccozyma terrea as an effective plant growth promoter (vol 496, pg 83, 2024)

Abstract

The original version of the article unfortunately contained an error in the identification of the yeast species Solicoccozyma aeria which we have confirmed corresponds to Solicoccozyma terrea. Sequence heterogeneity among species in the genus Solicoccozyma exhibits no stable pattern. For example, the type of strain of Solicoccozyma terrea differs from Solicoccozyma fuscescens by three nucleotides in the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region, whereas the latter species differed from Solicoccozyma aeria by thirteen positions (Li et al. 2020). Although the ITS region is the best choice as a general DNA metabarcoding marker for fungi, there are inherent limitations associated with its use. For instance, proper species delimitation is often not possible with a single marker, and a significant gap in the DNA barcode (i.e., interspecific divergence) between sister taxa in ITS is often missing (Kauserud, 2023). We have repeated multiple times the sequencing and subsequent bioinformatics analyses confirming that the species corresponds to Solicoccozyma terrea.
