Abstract

This paper deals with the kind of government which was present during the period called «Roman republic» and presents the different positions that analyze it as an aristocratic government or a democratic one.The fruitful historiographical debate in these last thirty years has achieved a better and more profound knowledge of the functioning of the Roman political system, and also a more comprehensibly understanding of the causes of its grandeur and decline.
