Abstract

In Chile, a third political force has appeared: Frente Amplio, a new coalition that criticises neoliberalism. Since its emergence, various academic authors have analysed this uprising as well as warned about the coalition’s possible limitations in trying to imitate political theses distant to the Chilean political context. In this regard, this research aims to complement this idea by interpreting the coalition’s emergence, as well as interpreting some Frente Amplio definitions from the Ernesto Laclau and Chantal Mouffe’s post-Marxist perspectives: a theoretical construction that has underpinned other political projects nowadays. Finally, the difficulties in interpreting the Frente Amplio party from such perspectives are analysed, either because of the theories inconsistencies towards the emergence of this political project, or because of its theoretical inconsistency.
