Abstract

The article is framed within the development of Catholic eschatology in the last century. Congar played a preponderant role in this process, but his proposal is quite unknown. His critique of the treatise De ultimis led to the rediscovery of the eschatological meaning as a dynamizer for all theology. This study highlights six fundamental elements that emerge in Congar: the centrality of the Christian/Paschal mystery, the collective-individual balance, the historical linkage, the dynamizing dimension, the already but not yet, and the fact of being terminus and consummation; they are proposed as criteria for a renewal of the eschatology, thus demonstrating the current relevance of Congarian thought. © 2025 Servicio de Publicaciones de la Universidad de Navarra.
