Abstract

The purpose of this study was to validate and propose a brief version of the Food Craving Questionnaire-Trait (FCQ-t) adapted to Chilean adults. The study was conducted in two stages: first, the psychometric properties of the original full version of the questionnaire, consisting of 37 items and 9 factors, were analyzed; in the second stage, a reduced version with 5 items and one factor was proposed. A total of 669 individuals from different cities in Chile participated, and confirmatory factor analyses were performed to evaluate the questionnaire’s structure. Results indicated that the brief version presented better fit indices, with a CFI of 0.994, TLI of 0.989, and RMSEA of 0.039, compared to the full version. Cronbach’s alpha of 0.862 suggests good internal consistency. These findings support the use of the Food Craving Questionnaire-Trait brief as a valid and efficient tool for measuring food cravings in the Chilean population, providing a more practical option for public health and eating behavior studies. © 2025 Sociedad Chilena de Nutrición, Bromatología y Toxicología.
