Abstract

This article aims to determine the nature of studies on decentralization and territorial governance in Chile, establishing the main problems of interest and, from this, project a future research agenda on the subject. For this purpose, a review of research on decentralization and governance was carried out, using the methodology of systematic review of articles in three databases: WoS, Scopus and Dialnet, at two times of publication: June 2023 and the second in January-February. 2024. The main result is that there are four areas on which studies have been developed, where the problems of inequalities and conflicts in regions stand out. As part of the conclusions, the dynamics of the articulation of actors and the institutional capacities that subnational governments require to respond to territorial problems are projected as a future research agenda, especially for the complete democratization of these levels of government. © 2025, Universidad del Zulia.
