First report of a psyllid vector of ‘Candidatus Phytoplasma pruni’ (strain 16SrIII-J)
Abstract
Mallow psyllid (Hemiptera: Psyllidae) individuals have been captured on Malva sp. plants infected with ‘Candidatus Phytoplasma pruni’ (strain 16SrIII-J), in pear orchards in Libertador Bernardo O’Higgins region, Chile. The mallow psyllid transmitted ‘Ca. P. pruni’ to periwinkle plants, being this the first report of 16SrIII-J transmission by a psyllid. COI and mitochondrial genome sequences indicate that mallow psyllid individuals captured in the pear orchards would belong to a new genus.
