Abstract
This article presents the results of a research whose purpose was to characterize the evaluation criteria used by 3rd and 4th year high school students in Chile to judge citizen education topics. The study has a qualitative approach, applying a semi-structured interview to ten students from two establishments in the Valparaíso Region. Thus, it is concluded that: at the classroom level, the criteria are mostly disciplinary and are explicitly communicated by the teacher; at the school level, the predominant criterion is the right to give an opinion and these tend to be supervised by the school institution and only outside of school; students perceive that they can construct its criteria with greater degrees of freedom in a more autonomous way.
