Criminality and migration in Chile, a look from the mass media

Abstract

The purpose is to analyze the correspondence between crime and migration in Chile, a look from the communication media, taking into account the reality regarding the perception that Chileans have of Venezuelans as immigrants. It is a documentary study, with analyzes by different authors such as: Gutierrez et al (2020), Guillen et al. (2019), Leiva et al. (2020), Bahar et al. (2020), Jesuit Migration Service (2020, 2021) International Organization for Migration (2018), among others; who have tried to make visible the situation experienced by many immigrants when they arrive in other countries to improve their quality of life, and do not find understanding and empathy to overcome deficiencies and demonstrate their skills in jobs that can contribute to their existence. The determining result is that information and news from the media (radio, print, digital) affects reality, influencing the perception of Chileans regarding these immigrants.
