Dialogue of knowledges as a disruptive method in teaching-learning and evaluation of the Law through research

Abstract

This study analyzes the dialogue of knowledges as a disruptive method in the teaching, learning, and assessment of law through research. It is based on a mixed-methods approach, applying the methodology of dialogic knowledge exchange, and uses observation as a technique to assess student research projects at the University of Tarapacá. These projects were developed with academic guidance in the courses Criminal Law, Theory of Punishment and Criminal Reaction (2O22), and Special Criminal Law, Criminalistics and Forensic Sciences (2O23). The findings indicate that students’ presentations successfully integrated theoretical and practical aspects of legal knowledge, emphasizing critical and interdisciplinary engagement. The research activities enhanced students’ content knowledge, research skills (observation, interpretation, reasoning, decision-making), and communicative abilities, including vocabulary, diction, legal language use, oral expression, and social interaction—key competencies for future legal professionals. © 2025 Universidad de Chile.
