Abstract

Through this piece of work, we sought to identify a typology about deaths of professional divers in Chile between 2000 and 2012, for this purpose reports of fatal accidents in professional divers were selected.A count of 43 deceased divers in anaverage age of 43.9 years (SD 9.9 years) was obtained. According to that the main causes of death wereasphyxiation by immersion, and serious diseases due to inadequate decompression.This research work shows a profile of the deceased professional divers and also the riskiest maritime work zones in order to preventive actions should be taken. Se buscó identificar la tipología de muertes de buzos profesionales entre 2000 y 2012 en Chile. Se seleccionó informes de accidentes fatales de buzos profesionales. Se obtuvo un recuento de 43 buzos fallecidos, promedio de edad media 43,9 años (DT 9,9 años). Las principales causas de muerte fueron asfixia por inmersión y enfermedad aguda por descompresión inadecuada. El estudio muestra un perfil de los fallecidos y las zonas de trabajo marítimo más riesgosas. Se deben generar acciones preventivas.
