Abstract

This article analyzes, from a feminist perspective, the narratives on the concept of care in Chile. To this end, we first review the history of the concept of care and its expression in public policies in Latin America and Chile. The qualitative study will analyze discourses through semi-structured interviews with members of social organizations. The analysis will demonstrate the potential and limitations of the concept of care, the precariousness of caregivers, the relevance of the community dimension of care, and the strategies used by the organizations in front of and beyond the institutional framework. The analysis reveals the main challenges around care and serves as a basis for questioning the categories used in current policies, based mainly on the innovative contributions from the transgender community, organizations of women in prison and Mapuche women defenders of water and territory.
