Abstract

This article examines the case of Samba Da Costa, a collective of women musicians who perform samba de raíz in Valparaíso, through Erika Fischer-Lichte’s (2011) performative analysis model and her approach to materialities: corporeality, spatiality, and sonority. Employing a methodology that includes live performance observation, a group interview, and musical and performative analysis from a gender perspective, the study argues that Samba Da Costa’s musical practices challenge the sexual division of labor in music while simultaneously expanding the horizons of possibility for collective modes of corporeality and sonority. © 2025, REVISTA DE HUMANIDADES.
