Abstract

Sexual violence is a serious human rights violation with high global prevalence, especially among women. However, it remains the most underreported violent crime. This study analyses the probability of reporting among 787 adult women in Chile using an expanded socioecological framework that integrates individual, interactional, situational, macrosocial, and chronosystemic levels. Based on data from the National Survey on Violence Against Women, it explores the dynamics shaping the decision to report. Results show that younger women, with low adherence to traditional gender roles and who have experienced private or repeated victimization, are more likely to report. The study expands current understanding of reporting behavior by offering a contextually grounded analysis within Latin America and highlighting sociocultural dimensions often overlooked in global literature. © 2025, Sociedad Espanola de Investigacion Criminologica.
