Abstract

The objective of this article is to calculate the Normalized Difference Water Indices proposed by Gao (1995), McFeeters (1996) and Xu (2006) in a five-year time series of Landsat 8 satellite images. Correlational comparisons were made between the mentioned indices and the IPA index to identify which results presented better correlation with the results provided by the IPA, being the indices proposed by McFeeters and Xu the ones that showed better correlation. Comparisons were also made between the results of the water indices to characterize the spectral behavior and identify which of the indices presented greater sensitivity in the identification of surface waters in a Pampas area of the Province of Buenos Aires. In the statistical analysis stage between the results of the water indices, those proposed by McFeeters and Xu obtained better correlation and sensitivity.
