Abstract

The concept of professional socialisation encapsulates the multifactorial process of learning whereby a person becomes part of a profession. After characterising its origin in the spheres of sociology and social psychology, through the corpus of this article, its historical-conceptual de-velopment is analysed, and we reflect on how the concept of professional socialisation provides different ways to approach and understand professional learning and nursing education. In so doing, ideas and reflexive questions are posed, aiming at opening new discussions in the domain of professional education and orientating future research endeavours.
