Abstract

This article presents the results of a qualitative study carried out in some communes of the city of Santiago de Chile, and in Antofagasta, in northern Chile. The analysis shows how the articulation between foreignness –which refers both to the migratory situation and to processes of ethnicization and racialization- and a deregulated real estate market and a subsidiary neoliberal State, create informality and precariousness in access to housing, which materializes in at least three situations: abusive rent conditions, overcrowding and self-construction in camps.
