Abstract

New surface findings of discoidal stones from Southern Patagonia are presented. The distribution of discoidal stones and Fell Cave projectile points is analyzed and used to enhance our understanding of hunter-gatherer mobility ranges. The available information is presented and the potential for time-transgressive, exapted or other explanations is considered. The discussion of discoidal stones and projectile points recovered near Fell cave takes into account contextual information and evaluates its potential to suggest interaction with other sites. Finally, a short global discussion of the distribution of discoidal stones is presented, and the hypothesis of convergence is preferred over one based on a common origin.
