Abstract
This study aims to assess the technical feasibility and characteristics of insulation materials for the Chilean residential sector that are produced with waste from the forestry and agricultural industry. For this purpose, theoretical and practical approaches are used to assess the availability of raw materials in two regions of southern Chile (AraucanÃa and Los RÃos). Also, national and international norms and sustainability certifications are studied to identify the requirements that the insulation material must comply, especially regarding thermal and acoustic performance and fire resistance. Finally, prototypes are built with the available raw materials in order to test the technical feasibility and the potential to be incorporated in wood-based construction systems. At the end of the project, these materials will be tested according to the identified technical requirements and installed in a construction made entirely of wood and designed to meet high standards of quality and energy efficiency.
