Synthesis and characterization of N-maleylglycine and its homopolymer
Abstract
The synthesis of the heterocyclic monomer N-maleylglycine starting from maleic anhydride and glycine and subsequent refluxing of the maleamic acid formed in the presence of triethylamine in toluene is described. In addition, the homopolymer of N-maleylglycine was synthesized by radical polymerization in solution. Both compounds were characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR spectroscopy. The polymer has a molecular mass of 11500 g/mol and showed a considerably higher stability than the N-maleylglycine monomer.
