Worked Example in Cost-Utility Analysis
Keywords: cost, benefit analysis; Dental caries; Pit and fissure sealants; Prevention
Abstract
This chapter builds upon the previous ones and provides a detailed description of the individual steps involved in designing a protocol for a cost-utility analysis (CUA). We describe step-by-step how to carry out a CUA to determine the incremental cost-utility ratio (ICUR) of a school-based first permanent molars sealants program. Besides, we will identify barriers to evaluation and ways to overcome them. For this purpose, we have structured this chapter in six basic steps to carry out a cost-utility analysis and thus facilitate a detailed understanding of the process of developing an economic evaluation.
