Abstract

The electrooxidation of dibutyldithiocarbamate ion (DBDTC') in aqueous solutions, 6.8 < pH > 11.0, has been carried out on gold and glassy carbon electrodes. The dibutylthiuram disulfide derivative, (DBDTC)2, has been considered as the electrooxidation product. On gold, the oxygen-containing species simultaneously formed on the electrode play an important rol in the reaction mechanisms. In contrast, on glassy carbon the electrooxidation takes place directly on the electrode surface. For both electrodes the process follows an intermediate kinetics and the adsorption of the organic is always present. In order to propose a reaction mechanism according with the experimental results, the effect of potential scan rate and electrode rotation speed were determined through cyclic voltammetry experiences to obtain the kinetic parameters and characterize the electrochemical process.
