Abstract

An integrated thermomechanical solution for the material and work rolls during the cold rolling of tinplate, to predict their heating, is proposed. Three mathematical models are developed and solved: 1) for the rolled material, from which the heat generated by deformation, the pressure distribution and the rolling load, among others are determined; 2) for the work roll, from which the temperature distribution and the radial thermal expansion are determined; 3) for the imperfect contact between the steel and the work rolls, from which the heat generated by friction at the roll gap and its distribution between strip and work rolls is calculated. Comparison between model predictions and experimental data from the literature for the rolling loads give average deviations of -1.1%.
