Abstract
Patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) are known to experience autonomic nervous system dysfunction. Including a wide variety of problems, as urinary urgency, frequency and nocturnal polyuria. The purpose of the present study was to assess the efficacy of desmopressin in 3 patients with PD with significant nocturia. They were first asked and self-questionnaire to establish a baseline and control to 4 weeks of number of nocturnal voids. The patients were prescribed the metered dose nasal spray form of desmopressine acetate and instructed to administer one metered-dose spray (10 ?g) into one nostril at bedtime for 1 week, the dose was increased to one in each nostril at bedtime (20 ?g) at second week. 3 patients participated, their ages 67, 59 and 81 years, with Hoehn and Yahr stages of 4. All patients were on levodopa preparations. Two patients completed the trial, they showed a decrease in the number of nocturnal voids. One patient failed to complete the drug trial for impaired of PD symptoms. Desmopressine was tolerated well.
