INFLUENCE OF THE GENOTYPE ON THE ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY OF UGNI MOLINAE LEAVES.
Murta or murtilla (c.n. Ugni molinae Turcz.), it’s a Chilean native shrub commonly known for his edible and aromatic berries. The leaves have also been used in chilean folk medicine to threat intestinal and urinary tract infections, and several studies have demonstrated that murta leaves extracts have antibacterial activity. Nowadays, the leaves have been the focus of recent research that demonstrates genotype has an influence in pharmacological activity. Studies made on our laboratory have shown that the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity is significantly different, as the chemical composition changes with the genotype. According to this, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the genotype in the antibacterial activity against E. coli and S. aureus for murta leaves extracts.
