Abstract

This research evaluated the urban solid waste as a feed in a hydrothermal carbonization process and showed a solution for the environmental problem caused of this residue in Chile. The results were compared to other experiences, perceiving similar values and tendency. It is very important to continue the research on this topic, because HTC process is very affected for many variables, including the characteristics of the feed. The parameters of the reaction resulted to get the best global yield were a temperature of 200 ºC and 90 minutes for time reaction, with a severity factor of 4.9. With this situation, we established an approach for the valorization of the urban solid waste in Chile, to produce a solid product with higher energetic density than the original biomass, using hydrothermal carbonization process
