Thermodynamic analysis of the change of solid solubility in a binary system processed by mechanical alloying

Abstract

Using a non-equilibrium process, it is possible to extend the solid solubility range in metallic systems. Therefore, the main objective of this work was to apply a thermodynamic model to predict the change in the solubility limit of systems with positive enthalpy mixing (Cu-Cr and Fe-Cu) processed by mechanical alloying. It was found that increasing the density of crystalline defects alters the solubility limit in these binary systems. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
