Formación de Capital Humano

I have supervised 20 undergraduate, 6 masters and in the process of supervising 10 PhD thesis (7 are completed). All of these theses have integrated social and ecological aspects of natural resource management and provided policy recommendations.
I have created and currently teach two masters and one undergraduate level course on the links between social and ecological research, as ways to inform applied marine management and conservation. I am committed to teach a new generation of scientists for both publishing interdisciplinary science in high impact journals and generate learning platforms to transform the ways we think about and solve marine conservation problems.

Difusión y Transferencia

I have worked on the transfer of scientific knowledge to the public and private sector (fisher cooperatives and consultants). Most of the transfer activities have taken place with local consultants, municipalities and small-scale fisher businesses and relate to best practices for marine management and conservation. This transfer has led to the implementation of the first legally recognized bottom-up marine protected area in the country in 2012. I have also transferred natural resource management assessment techniques for reef-fish to the undersecretary of fisheries through active participation in the Undersecretaries Scientific Committee. This has resulted in the first guidelines for recreational reef-fish management in the country. I am currently working closely with fishers and consulting firms to sharing knowledge and developing initial strategies to develop marine biodiversity offsetting strategies in Chile.
