Reconocido como Doctor of Medicine en los EE.UU., neurólogo, neuropsiquiatra, investigador e inventor biomédico especializado en los EE.UU. donde se desempeñó durante 33 años en la atención médica, en la investigación biomédica y la docencia universitaria. Parte de sus contribuciones son acerca de la Enfermedad de Alzheimer (EA) y condiciones relacionadas, la Neurología de la Cognición y del Comportamiento, y la Neuropsiquiatría. Está avalado por organizaciones acreditadas y de prestigio como American Academy of Psychiatry and Neurology, (EE.UU.), United Council of Neurological Subspecialties (EE.UU) y CONACEM (Chile). Kuljiš es actualmente Professor Emeritus de la Escuela de Medicina de la Universidad de Miami, EE.UU., e Investigador Asociado de la Universidad Diego Portales, Chile. A lo largo de su carrera ha desarrollado investigación traduccional, clínica y de laboratorio sobre la plasticidad, modificación y adaptación del Sistema Nervioso en numerosas condiciones que incluyen la EA, la demencia con cuerpos de Lewy, la demencia en desórdenes del movimiento y en la esclerosis lateral amiotrófica, la encefalopatía traumática crónica, ataxia-telangiectasia, demencia asociada al abuso de drogas y el virus de la inmunodeficiencia humana, la esquizofrenia y los desórdenes de la atención y la Neuroendocrinología entre muchos otros temas. Los logros profesionales del Dr. Kuljiš han sido reconocidos con numerosos galardones nacionales e internacionales que incluyen: John E. Fogarty International Postdoctoral Research Fellowship (Public Health Service/National Institutes of Health de los EE.UU., 1981-1982). Basil O'Connor Starter Research Grant, March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation (1986-1988). Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowship in Neuroscience (1986-1988), Yale University. Nelson Urban Research Award, Mental Health Association of Iowa. Esther Lichtenstein Chair in Neurology, University of Miami School of Medicine (1994-2008), su primera cátedra subvencionada (endowed chair en los EE.UU.) con cargo vitalicio (tenure en los EE.UU.). “America’s Top Physicians” (2004-2005 y 2014). John Sealy Distinguished Professor in Alzheimer’s Disease Clinical Research, The University of Texas (2008-2013), su segunda cátedra subvencionada (endowed chair en los EE.UU.) con cargo vitalicio (tenure en los EE.UU.). Más de 200 publicaciones científicas (entre artículos profesionales, capítulos de libros y presentaciones publicadas y sometidas a referato por pares en reuniones biomédicas internacionales), la gran mayoría en Europa y los EE.UU.
