TEACHING
I have taught courses in Physics, Mathematics and Materials Science to students across different disciplines in four countries (Argentina, France, Germany and Chile).
These courses include Solid State Physics, Quantum Transport, Quantum Mechanics and Discrete Mathematics for Computer Science.
I have carried out different outreach activities. This includes three main axes:
(i) Talks for the general public and also at schools, these talks usually try to convey a feeling for science and the role it has and may have in society and its future. Examples of these activities: talks on topics including "quantum computing for beginners", "graphene and the golden age of new materials" within the program of open talks at the University of Chile (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019) https://twitter.com/genesis1979/status/1159148143755300865; similar talks at schools within the program EXPLORA of the Chilean government and also for the Argentine Foundation for Nanotechnology (FAN);
(ii) Promoting science through articles, opinions, and interviews in the media (written and also on TV). This includes several notes for local newspapers (such as La Voz del Interior (Argentina) and La Tercera (Chile)), tv (Mega (Chile) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6kFbYvrXksg), and also magazines such as "América Economía" (Chile).
(iii) Promoting science through videos. In 2011 we produced one video on graphene, available in youtube both in Spanish and English ("Grafeno: tan lejos, tan cerca", "Graphene: Faraway, so close" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a60xAjM4spo) with more than 100 thousand views for the Spanish version.

ICTP Prize
INTERNATIONAL CENTRE FOR THEORETICAL PHYSICS (ICTP-TRIESTE)
Italia, 2018
This is one of the foremost prizes in Physics for the developing world. The ICTP Prize was created in 1982 by the ICTP Scientific Council to recognize outstanding and original contributions in physics by young scientists (those who have obtained their PhD less than 12 years earlier) from, and working in, developing countries. The ICTP Prize includes a sculpture, certificate and a cash award. “The Prize recognizes the independent contributions to the theoretical advancement of condensed matter physics of modern solid-state materials, including low dimensional and nanoscale systems. Theory work by Luis Foà Torres contributed importantly to our understanding of topological insulators, graphene and two-dimensional materials and nanotubes, including quantum transport and optoelectronics.” The prize ceremony is available in youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNjFmQYnrxA

Outstanding Referee of the American Physical Society
American Physical Society
Estados Unidos, 2018
The Outstanding Referee program was instituted in 2008 to recognize scientists who have been exceptionally helpful in assessing manuscripts for publication in the APS journals. The highly selective Outstanding Referee program annually recognizes about 150 of the roughly 71,000 currently active referees. Comparable to Fellowship in the APS and other organizations, this is a lifetime award.
