My role as an Assistant Professor at the Engineering Faculty at Universidad de los Andes enables me to lead initiatives that foster the development of young talent in operations research and artificial intelligence. By combining academic excellence with mentorship, I aim to cultivate the next generation of researchers equipped to address real-world challenges.
Proposed Training Strategy
1. Multidisciplinary Learning Opportunities
Using my experience as a co-founder of open-source communities Python Chile (recognized as an NGO) and PyLadies Santiago, I have witnessed the transformative power of inclusive, community-driven learning environments. I plan to replicate this model within the center by creating research groups with my thesis students. These groups will integrate optimization, programming, and machine learning to develop innovative solutions for pressing real-world problems.
2. Mentorship and Collaborative Research
My leadership roles, including my Ph.D. research at INRIA Lille-Nord Europe, have allowed me to guide collaborative research projects. I will mentor thesis students by creating an environment where collaboration and creativity are encouraged, enabling them to contribute to impactful research outcomes.
3. Promoting Diversity and Inclusion
As a founder of PyLadies Santiago, I have actively worked to empower underrepresented groups in STEM. Through periodic talks and workshops, I aim to increase the participation of women and minorities in training programs and leadership roles.
My experience in both academia and industry allows me to lead initiatives and effectively communicate research findings to diverse audiences.
Proposed Strategy
-Dissemination to Scientific and General Audiences
I have presented research at over 16 national and international conferences, such as EURO and IFORS, showcasing my ability to effectively communicate complex ideas to a broad range of audiences. I will continue my regular participation in prestigious conferences and workshops. To reach non-academic audiences, I will develop more accessible content, including talks at presentations at non-academic conferences and related outreach activities, that communicate the societal relevance and practical applications of our research.
