Difusión y Transferencia

1) 2014-present - Academic Advisor for SPEC Energy Consulting in Chile. This firms develops a software for investment and operations planning in the electric power industry named AMEBA. This software is based on the Pyomo algebraic modelling language develop at Sandia National Laboratories, where I spent 2 years as a Postdoctoral Researcher. AMEBA uses advanced optimization algorithms and decomposition techniques for the solution of large-scale planning problems, taking advantage of state-of-the-art high-performance computers. With my support, this firm has been awarded 2 grants for nearly 500,000 USD to support Research and Development from the Chilean Economic Development Agency (CORFO).

2) 2011-present - More than 50 presentations at international research conferences, including the INFORMS Annual Meeting, the IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting, the International Symposium on Mathematical Programming, the SIAM Conference on Computational Science and Engineering, the International Conference on Stochastic Programming, the International Association for Energy Economics European Conference, and the Latin-Iberoamerican Conference on Operations Research.

3) 2016-present - Consultant for private companies in the electric power sector, governments, and international agencies in matters such as investment planning, hedging strategies, market design, and environmental regulation. Some of my clients include the Chilean Department of Energy, the Peruvian Department of Energy, the Inter-american Development Bank, the German Corporation for International Cooperation GmbH (GIZ), the Chilean Association of Renewable Energy Generators (ACERA), Mainstream Renewable Power, Acciona, Sonnedix, Valhalla, and the Energy Center at Universidad de Chile.

4) 2017 - Presentation for the Chilean Minister of Energy on new methodologies for power transmission planning under uncertainty and renewable resource policies. The proposed methodologies were developed during my PhD studies and are currently used as part of the five-year national transmission planning study in Chile. These methodologies are also being used in the US Western Electricity Coordinating Council for long-term transmission planning studies.

5) 2017- Presentation for the Chilean Minister of Energy and the National Energy Commission on the long-term effects of the current carbon tax law implemented in the Chilean electricity market. The results are part of a Masters Thesis and an academic article that is currently under review in The Energy Journal. This study involved the development of new equilibrium models and solution algorithms for the analysis of markets with administrative restrictions.

6) 2019 - A two-day tutorial on electricity market design and equilibrium modeling at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro. The tutorial had nearly 70 participants from universities, private companies, and the Brazilian government.
