Formación de Capital Humano

I work as an associate professor in political science at Diego Portales University since the end of 2013. Currently I am supervising the dissertation of two PhD students and also the final work of one undergraduate students. Moreover, I have supervised the final work of four undergraduate students and one master student in the last two years. In addition, it is worth mentioning that due to my work as a Deputy Principal Investigator of the Millennium Research Project on "Challenges to Democratic Representation", I work as the supervisor of a post-doctoral researcher. Regarding my teaching experiences, I have thought courses on comparative politics, Latin American politics and research design at both the undergraduate and postgraduate in the last three years.

Difusión y Transferencia

In the last years I have participated in several activities of dissemination and research results transfer with impact on Chilean society. To begin with, I supported the Human Development Team of the Chilean Office of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), as a consultant, in the preparation of the 2015 Human Development Report on Chile, which is focused on the process of politicization. This report sparked public debate about the current state of Chilean democracy and the existence of different types of political cultures in the country. Moreover, since the year 2015 I work as a Deputy Principal Investigator of the Millennium Research Project on "Challenges to Democratic Representation". This research project examines the increasing challenges to democratic representation in Chile, from a comparative perspective. We normally collaborate with non-academic institutions and actors in an effort to bridge the gap between these different worlds and to make visible the research agenda of our Nucleus to policy-makers and decision-makers. By way of illustration, we have established an alliance with the Executive Committee of the Electoral Service of Chile (SERVEL) and we are producing with them at the moment an spot to encourage political participation in the municipal elections that will occur at the end of October. This spot will be shown in television during prime time for a week and it will also advertised in social media. In addition, in the last three years I have invited several scholars from abroad to give lectures open to the general public on topics that are very relevant for Chilean society (e.g. populism and democracy, challenges to democratic representation, etc.). Last but not leas, I frequently participate as a political analyst in CNN’s TV program “Cable a Tierra” and I also write op-eds for national and international media.
