Research and mentoring
Dr. Marcelo Aguilar-Rivera has been working to implement telemetric recordings of diverse biological signals from interacting rats. He has also been developing wearable devices to monitor physiological parameters in babies, a medical device for the monitoring of medication adherence; and a full integrated wireless system for the amplification of differents bio-potentials. He is a linchpin in the collaboration between Dr. Chiba's lab at cognitive science and Dr. Coleman's lab at Bioengineering. The main goal associated with this collaboration is the development of new tools to understand the relation between body and brain, and how this axis underlaying emotions. Dr. Aguilar-Rivera has played a key role to obtain the necessary financial support to accomplish the main goals associated with his team research. In addition, he has been working to develop behavioral setups (hardware and software) for the study of self-awareness and self-other distinction, by interrogating the interoceptive system of behaving rats during the expression of pro-social behaviors. Currently, he is mentoring a diverse group of undergrad and graduate students from different disciplines and universities considering his international collaboration with Brazil and Chile.
