Chairman of the strawberry physiology working group of the COST 836 “Integrated berry production” and of the bilateral project Italy-Japan “Strawberry fruit quality: genetic and physiological background”. He was member for three years of International Advisory Board of Research Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Pomology – PomoCentre, Skierniewice, Poland. From November 2004 he is the Italian chairman of the cooperation agreement between Michigan State University – Department of Horticulture e l’Università Politecnica delle Marche – Dept. of Agriculture, food and environment sciences for research and didactic in plant physiology, agroecology, and photosynthesis. From 2009 to 2012 he was Italian chairman for the bilateral agreement between INRA Montpellier and Università Politecnica delle Marche for plant physiology. From 2015 he is the Italian chairman of the Memorandum of Understanding with the AREEO (Agricultural Research, Education and Extension Organization) of Iran for the fruit production improvement, nursery technology and breeding.
Recently, he delivered international courses at the University of Rio Grande do Sur, Brasil, and seminars about plant physiology and sustainable agricultural systems at the doctoral school of Catholic University of Chile in Santiago, and other countries. In the last 5 years he delivered courses on flower mapping and plant architecture in Italy, Netherland, Germany, Chile, California and Australia.
From 2007 he is member of the regional commission on biodiversity of Marche Region. From 2015 he is consultant for biodiversity and fruit production at FAO. From 2016 he is the national focal point for biodiversity at FAO.


Difusión y Transferencia


He has served in a number of national and international committees for symposia on fruit production. He has authored or co-authored more than 150 journal articles http://scholar.google.it/citations?user=sUBzK5EAAAAJ&hl=it and two books: 1 - “Strawberry: Growth, Development and Diseases”; 2 - The pruning and training of the fruit trees. (in Italian “la potatura”). He is a member of ISHS, SOI (past president of fruit section of the Italian society for horticultural sciences) and JSHS, and academic correspondent of the National Academy for Olive and Oil. From 2003 he is member of editorial board of “Journal of Fruit and Ornamental Plant Research”. From January 2008 he is member of editorial board of “Hort journal” of “Japanese Society of Horticultural Science”. In May 2005 he was guest editor for “International Journal of Fruit Science” for the number 1 of the journal reporting the activity of COST 836. From 2013 he is member of editorial board of “International Journal of Plant and Soil Sciences”.
