Dr. Merchant regularly consults with several prestigious institutions worldwide and facilitates the formulation and implementation of their internationalization strategies. He is currently assisting institutions around the world in building and nurturing their portfolio of international competences. Dr. Merchant has designed and led ‘Doing Business in Emerging Markets’ training seminars for USA-based executives and SME owners. He has also consulted with a leading aerospace company whose senior managers he assisted in the area of developing joint ventures in a key emerging market.

During the last 25 years, Dr. Merchant has regularly shared his consulting- and research-based findings to academic and practitioner audiences around the world. These audiences include SME owners/managers as well as mid-/senior-level executives at larger companies.

Dr. Merchant was recently honored with a 'Global Achievement' award for outstanding contributions to ensure “…success in a global environment.” He is also ranked as the 10th most prolific International management scholar in the world. Dr. Merchant’s work has earned him 8 awards from three premier professional organizations. These awards covered quantitative as well as qualitative research. Dr. Merchant has also been nominated for the most prestigious teaching awards at all three institutions he has worked for.
