Political Philosophy. History of political ideas in Chile. Philosophy and Education.

From 2013 to date I have directed and co-directed 17 thesis projects (2016: 1, 2015: 3, 2014: 7 y 2013: 6). 10 correspond to Bachelor’s degrees, 4 to MSc degrees and 3 to PhD thesis projects. All thesis have been conducted as part of the undergraduate and postgraduate programs of the Facultad de Filosofía y Humanidades and the Facultad de Derecho of the Universidad de Chile.
Regarding university teaching, during the last 3 years I have conducted an average of four undergraduate and postgraduate courses per semester in the aforementioned Faculties. I must emphasize the academic training of graduates in philosophy during their last year of their training. The academic work required here was carried out fundamentally in the annual Seminar of “Filosofía y Educación” that I conduct in collaboration with professor J. Francisco Herrera. Regarding teaching at a postgraduate level, I have to mention the PhD courses conducted together with Claudio Durán (York University, Canadá) during the last three years, on the topic of “Filosofía, Educación y Política”.
It is also important to mention the post-doctorate supervision of Francisco de Undurraga and the sponsorship to the research by Claudia Gutierrez in a Conicyt project regarding the Integration of Advanced Human Capital in the Academic Field. This was carried out during the period between December 2010 and December 2013. After this project finished, Claudia Gutiérrez joined the Philosophy Department at Universidad de Chile, becoming its codirector.

From 1990 to date I have been principal researcher of 5 Fondecyt projects and co-researcher of 2 projects. Currently, I am the principal researcher of the Fondecyt project 1140744 “Ideas educacionales en Chile durante la transición a la democracia, la apropiación del movimiento de escuelas efectivas: sujetos, políticas y resistencias (1990-2017)” [Educational ideas in Chile during the transition to democracy, the appropriation of the effective school movement: subjects, policies and resistence], valid during the period of 2014-2018. In the context of this Fondecyt project -and with the collaboration of the Fondecyt project conducted by an academic from the Facultad de Ciencias Sociales- we have carried out the international seminar of "Educación Pública y Privatización" [Public education and privatisation], during September 1st & 2nd of 2015. This seminar included the participation of guest teachers such as Pablo Gentili, (Director of CLACSO), Gary Anderson, Romuald Normand, Toni Verger, Dalila Andrade and academics from other state national universities (U. de Chile, U. de Santiago, U. de Valparaíso, among others).

Currently, I am on an academic stay thanks to the invitation by the Philosophy Department of the University of Paris (04th-17th October). In this academic stay I will present my research on philosophy and education policies in Chile. As part of the stay, a round table and a debate will be carried out on the topic of the new edition of “El Pensamiento Conservador en Chile” [Conservative thinking in Chile], in view of its publication in France. It is important to mention that this book was selected this year by the Book Acquisition Program of Chilean authors of the Culture and Arts Council to be distributed in state libraries of the country.

Finally, over the last years, I have participated in several meetings, seminars and conferences that have addressed topics about Public Education, Democracy and Philosophy. Besides, together with professor Marcos García de la Huerta, we have obtained the “Juvenal Hernández” award, for the book “Construcción de Identidad, creación de sentido” [Construction of identity, creation and sense].
