Dr. Simon Casassus is Full Professor at the Astronomy Department of the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical and Sciences (FCFM), “Universidad de Chile”, and regularly lectures on undergraduate physics and postgraduate astrophysics. He has taught 48 full-semester courses at FCFM on undergraduate Physics (Statistical Physics, Modern Physics, Vibrations and Waves, Electromagnetism, Electrodynamics, Dynamical Systems), undergraduate Astronomy (practicals in CCD astronomy and Radiative Transfer), and postgraduate Astronomy (The Interstellar Medium, Planet Formation).

Dr. Casassus has advised 2 Ph.D. thesis (1 underway), 8 M.Sc. theses, 7 in Astronomy and 1 in Computer Sciences, and 12 B.Sc. dissertations. Most thesis and dissertations have led to publications, 13 of which have been first-authored by students. Seven of his thesis students have first-authored papers for their degrees. Dr. Casassus has also worked with 8 postdoctoral fellows for whom he has secured funds, and has also been sponsor for some of them in subsequent FONDECYT grant applications.
